Improve pigmentation at home

Improve pigmentation at home

Now summer has officially ended, we are all looking to improve pigmentation whilst spending a little bit more time at home. Dull, uneven skin tone, patchiness and dark spots are nobody's best friend – yet sadly most of us contend with pigmentation in some way or another particularly once the season of sunshine is over. Those who experience discolouration, dark spots or brown patches, totally understand how difficult it can be to cover them with a concealer or foundation.

Technically the word ‘pigmentation’ refers to any pigment within the skin, so each of us have varying levels based on how dark or light our complexion is. What has commonly become known just as pigmentation in the skincare world, though, is hyperpigmentation, AKA the overproduction of melanin.

This type of pigmentation is basically the presence of excess and uneven melanin in the skin. It occurs when cells (known as melanocytes) become damaged due to things like sun exposure, skin trauma, inflammation (acne), smoke, pollution or hormones. It most commonly appears on your face, neck and décolletage. To treat it you firstly need to identify its causes and then prevent further damage to the skin. For example, melasma, which appears as brown patches on the skin can be due to hormonal changes during pregnancy or from sun exposure, whereas skin discolouration or dark spots may be post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, which occurs after an injury to the skin.

If your pigmentation issues are bothering you, switching up your skincare can be a way to kick healthy cell production back into gear. When creating your new skincare routine, you’ll want to focus on ingredients that’ve been proven to have brightening or skin-resurfacing benefits — a combination of the two, along with some protective antioxidants, makes an effective formula.

So if you're done with dull discolouration, whether that's from sun damage, age spots, freckles or pregnancy-related dark patches – look no further than these three Ellus & Krue powerhouse products. Each product is curated by science and contains active ingredients drawn from mother nature's library, designed to help you sort out pigmentation from the comfort of your sofa.
