Guide to a Deep Cleansing Facial

Guide to a Deep Cleansing Facial

When it comes to healthy, youthful skin, your face deserves the best. A deep cleansing facial helps detox your skin, draw out impurities and reduce imperfections.

The great news is a great deep cleansing facial doesn’t need to be expensive or complicated. It’s possible to create your own at home with high-quality products. We’ll walk you through the steps to create a deep cleansing facial at home.

What is a Deep Cleansing Facial?

A deep cleansing facial is a multi-step treatment to improve skin health by drawing out impurities, improving complexion and assisting in the treatment of acne-prone skin.

Our faces are exposed to heat, cold, sweat and dirt every day. We can give our skin a much-needed treat with a deep cleansing facial. This treatment can benefit all skin types, whether you have normal, sensitive, dry, oily or combination skin.

A deep cleansing facial is a popular spa treatment that includes cleansing, exfoliating and hydrating your skin. Although usually offered by estheticians, it is possible to get spa-quality treatment yourself. We’ll give you the step-by-step process for a DIY deep cleansing facial with Ellus & Krue faves.

Is a Deep Cleansing Facial Good for Acne?

Acne is one of the most common skin conditions, affecting almost 90% of all people at some point in their life. Despite being so common, it can have an immensely negative effect on our self-esteem.

The good news is because it is so common, there are plenty of treatment options available. These range from over-the-counter lotions to treatment from a professional dermatologist.

Spa treatments offered by estheticians can provide much-needed relief to acne-prone skin. When it comes to acne, a deep cleansing facial reaches into our pores to rid the skin of dirt and excessive oils to promote healthy, glowing skin.

Types of acne

There are many different types of acne, including:

 Blackheads

 Whiteheads

 Hormonal acne

 Cystic acne

While each type of acne requires different treatment, and in some cases medical advice, a DIY deep cleansing facial can remove oils, toxins and dirt to improve acne-prone skin.

Skin-friendly ingredients

Ellus & Krue products contain key ingredients that soothe, hydrate and boost skin health.

Aloe Vera

Aloe is a succulent that calms, cools and soothes your skin. It helps hydrate your skin and is suitable for all skin types -- even those with sensitive skin.

Pumice

A natural exfoliant form of volcanic rock that removes dirt, sweat, oil and dead skin for a deep exfoliating facial.

Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring moisture-binding molecule in our bodies, holding up to 1000 times its weight in water. This makes it a powerhouse moisturising agent!

Vitamin B3

Often skin care products might list ‘Niacinamide’ in the ingredients. While it might sound ‘artificial’, it’s just a fancy name for Vitamin B3, which boosts hydration and improves the appearance of fine lines.

Witch hazel

This botanical is an astringent -- or ‘tightens’ the appearance of pores -- and reduces excess oil in the skin.

Cucumber

This fruit (yes -- it’s a fruit!) is an antioxidant, rich in Vitamin C. It naturally brightens dull skin, soothes and hydrates to keep skin feeling fresh.

How Long Does a Deep Cleansing Facial Take?

Facials that are done professionally in a clinic or spa generally take 60-90 minutes. With a range of quality products available, you can get the same results and save time with a DIY at-home facial.

Step by Step Guide to Giving Yourself a Deep Cleansing Facial at Home

1. Cleanse Your Face

Cleansing washes the skin of any dirt and oil, giving you a fresh and clean base to work with. We recommend a gel-based cleanser, such as the  Hydro Gel Cleanser, for a gentle, hydrating cleanse.

The Hydro Gel Cleanser should be used every day in the morning and the evening. Apply two pumps to your clean fingertips and massage in to your face and neck using circular motions.  Rinse the cleanser off using warm, not hot, water.

The mix of Aloe Vera, Cucumber and natural soother, Calendula, creates a cool, calming cleanse --  making it the perfect first step in your deep cleansing facial.

2. Draw Impurities From Pores

With a fresh face, the next step is to exfoliate your skin. A deep exfoliation ‘scrubs’ off any dead skin and leftover impurities to allow other products to penetrate the skin.

We recommend the Detoxifying Exfoliant, made with the best ingredients found in nature, like Pumice, Kaolin clay minerals and soothing Aloe Vera.

After cleansing, apply an almond-sized amount of Detoxifying Exfoliant in your hands. Mix it with a little bit of warm water and gently massage into your face and neck. Rinse with warm water and pat dry.

3. Apply a Serum

Now it’s time to moisturise and revitalise your skin. Choose your favourite serum and apply 1 or 2 drops to your face and neck. Lightly work into your neck and finish with a moisturiser.

For a potent anti-aging and moisturising serum, we recommend the EPI-gN Serum. Made with botanicals, vitamins and minerals, the EPI-gN™ Serum is designed to refine, repair and revitalise your skin.

A deep cleansing facial may seem like a luxury only available with a spa appointment, but you can easily achieve an at-home facial with the right products and some spare time. You can find our full range of products here, or get in touch with our team to find out more.
