The New Frontier of Cancer & Ageing Research
It has been predicted that by 2030 half of all global deaths will be from cancer. Currently our chances of getting cancer in our lifetime is approaching 70%.
Professor Derek Richard is committed to combating this devastating disease by using an innovative approach to treatment combined thanks to the collective efforts of a multidisciplinary team of world class scientists, clinicians and surgeons.
Research is still in the early stages, but through countless experiments they have been able to change the activity of some of these proteins that may delay the ageing process and the onset of age-related diseases like Alzheimer’s and arthritis.
While most cancer research looks for mutations in genes, Professor Derek Richard and his team at The Cancer & Ageing Research Program (CARP) look at cancer from a different angle by taking a step back and looking at the fundamental cause of all cancer: genetic instability. By looking at the genetic code, they have identified genes that resist change when cancer develops.
The Link Between Cancer and Ageing
Through their research, Professor Richard's team have discovered a link between proteins that are involved in both cancer and ageing. They have identified a key protein that's increased in all cancers and when they block this protein in the cancer cells, they die.
This same protein is linked to other proteins that are also important in the ageing process. Research is still in the early stages, but through countless experiments they have been able to change the activity of some of these proteins that may delay the ageing process and the onset of age-related diseases like Alzheimer’s and arthritis.
At Ellus & Krue, we are excited about the future of these developments and are proud to support the work of Professor Derek Richard and his team at CARP.
For every Ellus & Krue essential sold, we donate a portion of the sale directly to help support this vital research into finding a universal cure for cancer and ageing-related illness.
